Potomac Zen Sangha

The Potomac Zen Sangha is located in Alexandria within walking distance of the metro (see directions below).  It is open to the public for meditation and talks by Zen Master Pohwa Sunim. Each class stands on its own and no prior experience is necessary.

We accept donations, but they aren't necessary. Guidelines are $10 per class, $15 per week, or $50 per month. Suggested student donations are half of these amounts.

Class Schedule

From Friday, 5/11/12, to Monday, 5/21/12 classes will NOT be held in Alexandria.

Instead, attend the retreat 30 minutes south of Alexandria for as little or as much as you can. Click on the "Coming Events" tab to the left for details.

• Beginner's Zen Class
  
  
  • Wednesday 7:00PM - 9PM
    
    
  In the moment, there are no beginners nor experts. But you should learn to bloom a fresh lotus flower each second. Zen Tea will be served along with meditation discussion. The class includes two 25 minute sitting sessions separated by a ten minute walking meditation. Arrive early for one-on-one meditation dialog. Just come as you are.

  After a busy week, turn towards Zen and peaceful nighttime sitting and walking meditation. Mitigate suffering by developing a sages mind. Tiger never eats grass. Zen Warriors capture the eternal truth in every single moment of life and death. Join us for any portion of the deep Zen meditation.
  • 7-8PM  45 minutes sitting and 15 minutes walking meditation
  • 8-9PM  45 minutes sitting and 15 minutes walking meditation
  • 9-10PM  Zen Master's Dharma Talk. Private Koan interview with Master Sunim.
  • 10-11PM  45 minutes sitting and 15 minutes walking meditation

  Buddha means Enlightenment. Because Buddha spoke without words, Udumbara only blooms on your tongue. Join us for an hour and a half of morning sitting, some chanting and Zen tea along with a Dharma talk.
