United Nations Vesak Ceremony

Monks Praying at UN Vesak Ceremony

The World Zen Fellowship sent a delegation to New York's United Nations.  The Buddhist group led by Zen Master Pohwa Sunim was invited by the UN to celebrate Vesak (the Buddha's birth, enlightenment and passing away). It was in recognition of Buddhism's 2500 years of contribution to human spirituality.

The UN proclaimed "…the philosophy of Buddhism lays at the heart of the United Nations message… (Buddha's) teachings are based on the law of release from suffering, leading to spiritual enlightenment, as well as abjuration of force, violence and persecution."

This historical celebration was an important day for Buddhists around the globe and the World Zen Fellowship was honored and pleased to represent the Zen Buddhist community.
